'Corner Brook runners to participate in Fight Like a Girl run for breast cancer'

Summers, a native of Conception Bay South who has been living in Corner Brook for the past three years, will be lacing up her running shoes Oct. 14 for the annual Live Love Run for Breast Cancer.

The Fight Like a Girl Run is an initiative of the British Columbia-based Run Like a Girl Adventure Inc. that serves as a fundraising venture for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The main run takes place in Fort Langley, B.C., but it has a virtual component that enables people to participate no matter where they live. Summers is a Run Like a Girl Ambassador so she, like others in the same role across the country, will host her own virtual run Oct. 14 starting at 8 a.m. at Marble Mountain in Steady Brook.

Local runners can register for the event by going to the Run Like a Girl website (RunLikeAGirl.Ca) and signing up as a virtual runner and join Summers on the run to support the fight against breast cancer.

A portion of the proceeds from the registration money will be donated to the Canada Breast Cancer Foundation and Summers is sending out an invite to anybody who loves to run or would like to play a small part in the fight against the dreaded disease.

“They can join me and my group that I have registered or they’re welcome to run it on their own anywhere or anytime,” Summers said.

Summers is hoping to see a big crowd come out for the run. The fight against breast cancer is real and she wants people to do their part in raising money with hopes a cure will be found sooner rather than later.
