GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NL – The Exploits Valley High School (EVH) cheerleading team is getting ready for a once-in-a-lifetime competition in Florida in February 2018.
The cheerleaders have been busy practicing their routine twice a week and fundraising for the much-anticipated trip.

The World School Cheerleading Championships (WSCC) will take place in Orlando, Florida. The EVH team competed at Newfoundland and Labrador Cheerleading Athletics (NLCA) provincials back in the spring of 2017 and scored the second highest in the school division.

The team was awarded a partial bid to compete at WSCC.

In the past the EVH team has successfully competed at provincials and CheerExpo in Halifax.
“They are looking forward to challenging themselves with this much larger-scale competition,” said coach Shauna Guy.

The team consists of 15 hard-working, dedicated athletes from both Exploits Valley Intermediate and Exploits Valley High, said Guy.

Grade 9 student Sarah Broderick has been cheerleading since she was in the seventh grade. She told the Advertiser how much she is looking forward to this competition.
“We’ve had pictures of cheerleaders in Florida and I’ve always looked at them and I’ve been so excited – I always dreamed that I could be there, so I am very excited to go,” she said.

Grade 11 student Kaitlyn Loveless, another member of the EVH cheer team, added she is looking forward to going to Florida and having this experience with her team.
She looks forward to watching the other teams perform.

“I love the team,” said Loveless. “I love being a part of a team and working together.”

The team will be in Orlando from Feb. 7-12 with the competition taking place on Feb. 10 and 11.
