The central rivalry between the Gander Flyers and the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts brought about a Flyers win on Sunday afternoon.

The Cataracts bested the Flyers during their previous Central West Senior Hockey League matchup, and the hometown Flyers were determined to not have a repeat at the Steele Community Centre.

The Flyers took the lead in the first period, with Brad Power and Andrew Paul netting goals for the team. Mike Brent would provide the Cataracts only goal of the period.

In the second period the Flyers extended their lead with a goal from Jordan Escott.

In the third period Flyers secured a 5-2 win, with captain Mitch Oake adding two goals. The Cataracts saw a single goal from Danny Wicks.

The Flyers are away next weekend, facing the Clarenville Caribous on Dec. 15 and the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts on Dec. 17.
