GANDER, NL – Fans packed the Steele Community Centre to witness the senior hockey league’s first interlocking game pitting the Central West Gander Flyers against the East Coast Conception Bay Blues.
And the hometown team wasn’t disappointed, as the Flyers pulled off a 7-2 win over the Blues.
The Flyers got off to quick start in the first, picking up four goals. Brad Power netted two and Andrew Ryan and Scott Doody scored a goal each.
Garret Murphy netted the only goal of the period for the Blues.
In the second period, Murphy added another for the Blues, but the Flyers replied quickly, with Lucas McKay collecting the point.
Andrew Paul and Patty O’Keefe added one goal each for good measure for the Flyers in the third, to give the hometown team the win.
Tomorrow, the Flyers will face the Southern Shore Breakers at 1:30 p.m. at the Steele Community Centre.
