GANDER, NL – It was a high scoring victory for the Gander Flyers against the Northeast Eagles as the Central West Senior Hockey League and East Coast Senior Hockey League interlocking weekend series wrapped at the Steele Community Centre in Gander Sunday afternoon.
The Flyers would pick up a 12-1 victory to remain undefeated on home ice.
This marked the Flyers second win of the interlocking weekend. Flyers top Caps in Central vs. East showdown
The hometown team got to work early, netting seven goals in the first period –seeing a hat trick from Paul Hutchings, and goals from Nick Fitzgerald, Andrew Ryan, Andrew Paul and Brandon Hynes.
The Flyers would continue to control the second, adding two more points – by Hynes and Jordan Escott. The Eagles would find their way onto the board late in the period when a top corner slap shot from Alex Snow made its way past the glove of Flyers net minder Drew Manuel.
The one sided game didn’t show any signs of change in the third, with goal 10 and 11, picked up Graham Oldford, warranting very little celebration from the Flyers. Ryan – picking up his second goal of the game – would add another for the Flyers to round out a 12-1 victory.
In other interlocking play on Sunday afternoon the CWSCHL’s Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts bested the ECSHL’s St. John’s Caps 4-2.
The Gander Flyers will be back in action next weekend, facing the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts at the Steele Community Centre at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 20, and again on Jan. 21, 1:30 at the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in Grand Falls-Windsor.
