GANDER, NL - The second round of interlocking games between the Central West Senior Hockey League and the East Coast Senior Hockey league, saw the Gander Flyers down the St. John’s Caps 4-2 on Saturday night.
At the Steele Community Centre, in Gander, the Caps lit up the board first with an early goal from Dakota Warren. The Flyers were scoreless after the first.
It was a different story in the second period, as goals from Mitch Oake and Brandon Hynes gave the hometown team the advantage.
Justin O’Rielley of the Caps would briefly tie it up late in the third, but a second goal from Hynes and an empty netter from Jordan Escott secured a 4-2 win for the Flyers.
In other interlocking play the CWSCHL’s Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts downed the ECSHL’s Northeast Eagles 6-1.
The interlocking weekend series will see the Flyers back in action at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday to face the Northeast Eagles. At the same time tomorrow, the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts will face the St. John’s Caps.
