GANDER, NL – It couldnt have been a better weekend for Gander Flyers fans.

On home ice at the Steele Community Centre, the opening weekend for the Central West Senior A Hockey League, it was back-to-back victories against the Clarenville Caribous.

Following Saturday nights 4-1 win, the Flyers squared off on Sunday to capture a 6-5 nail-biter win.

Brandon Hynes, Mitch Oake and Jordan Escott netted goals for the Flyers in the first period. The Caribous saw contributions from Brandon Roach and Justin Pender.

In the second, Scott Doody and Hynes continued to further the Flyers cause. However, Jordan Kennedy and Kevin Reid kept the Caribous within one goal.

Brad Power would provide the game-winner for the Flyers mid-way through the third. While the Caribous were able to pick up a goal with Ryan Desrosiers it wasn’t enough to force overtime.

The Flyers are off next weekend, but are set to return on Nov. 18-19 to play home games against the east coast teams the Conception Bay Blues, on Saturday, and the Southern Shore Breakers on Sunday.
