GANDER, NL — In a high scoring game at the Steele Community tonight, Dec. 9, the Gander Flyers claimed a win against the Clarenville Caribous.

The Clarenville team was coming into the game after a 5-2 win against the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts in Grand Falls on Friday evening.

It appeared they were about to repeat their success tonight.

After the opening period the Flyers were well behind, with the Caribous netting four goals – Ryan Delaney (2), Justin Pender and Ken Mahoney, against two points from the Flyers  – Brandon Hynes and Andrew Ryan scoring.

The Flyers battled back in the second period with goals from Jordan Escott, Mitch Oake and Josh Fitzgerald to claim the lead with just four seconds left on the clock.

Gander continued their attack in the third, with a second goal from Doody.

Delaney replied for Clarenville, to earn a hat trick.

However, Brad Power scored for the Flyers on a power play.

Gander’s Josh Day added an empty-netter with just three minutes left on the clock.

Dustin Russell managed one more point for the Caribous, but a second empty-netter for the Flyers, scored by Andrew Paul, finished the game with a 9-6 final for the home team.

The Flyers are back in action at the Steele Community Centre on Sunday, when they face the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts.
