BUCHANS, N.L. – Supporters and members of the Buchans Minors Hockey team gathered at the James Hornell Boys and Girls Club Tuesday, June 19 for their closing banquet.
Organizers Paula White and Carolyn Rowsell have headed up the minor hockey group and have enjoyed the time spent with players. They also wanted to express appreciation for the support they have received.
Each of the youth volunteers was presented with a gift certificate in appreciation from Minor Hockey as well as a participation certificate.
“Without you as volunteers, this would not be possible,” White said.
The corporate sponsors have allowed each of the players to purchase their Buchans Minor Hockey jerseys at a reduced cost. The group also received a donation of $3,000 from the Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union, Local 779. Those sponsors, as well as the Town of Buchans were included in White's words of appreciation.
Hockey souvenirs featuring a jersey and pair of skates were purchased from funds raised at the canteen during the Amber Chippett Memorial Skate-a-Thon in March. Amber's mom, Michelle Chippett painted each of them in the team members' names and their jersey numbers, making them very unique keepsakes.
