It happened a few days later than planned because of winter weather wiping out the pair of games scheduled for this past weekend, but the Corner Brook Royals are officially in playoff mode.

The Royals concluded their West Coast Senior Hockey League regular season with an 8-4 victory over the Stephenville Jets in a rare weeknight game at the Corner Brook Civic Centre.

Tyler Hunt rang up four goals for the Royals in the win, with Nick Childs, David Budgell, Iain Pilgrim, and Stephen Gillard doing the rest of the damage.

Equipment went flying as Jets’ Tyler Cornect, front, and Royals’ Adam Guy got into a little scuffle during the second period of play.

Josh White produced a pair for the Jets in the loss, while Nathan Ellsworth and Brad Lucas also found the back of the net.

Bradley Dyke was the winning netminder, with Ryan Hancock taking the loss at the other end of the ice.

The Royals now officially lay claim to the inaugural Art Barry Cup, which was established by the league to present to the team that finishes first in the regular season standings.

Barry is currently the president of the Jets and a driving force behind the establishment of the current senior hockey setup, following a career in the local game beginning with his minor hockey days in Corner Brook back in 1955.

The regular season will end for the Jets and Port aux Basques Mariners on Friday night, when the two teams clash at the Bruce II Sports Centre at 8 p.m.

The double round robin semifinal playoff format will then begin 8:30 p.m. on Saturday with the Royals taking on the Jets in Stephenville.

On Sunday, the Royals entertain the Mariners at 6 p.m.
