A three-goal effort from Kurt Etchegary helped power the Corner Brook Royals to a 6-3 triumph over the Port aux Basques Mariners on Saturday night at the Bruce II Arena.

Stephen Gillard contributed two goals to the winning total, while Scott Delaney provided the other.

Drew Nadon (2) and Luke Parsons responded for the Mariners in the losing cause.

Bradley Power made 23 saves in the win, with Ryley Nadon turning aside 34 of 40 while suffering the loss.

Delaney opened the scoring shorthanded at 4:23 of the first, from Nick Childs, then Etchegary picked up his first of the evening, from Lucas Wiseman and Tyler Hunt, at 11:21 to make it 2-0.

Etechegary then struck again with two ticks remaining on the score clock, unassisted, to give his side the three-goal advantage.

Nadon got the Mariners on the board at 8:57 of the second, from Dylan Savory and Paul Barter, then made it a one-goal game at 16:43. Parsons and Neil Keeping assisted on the play.

The Royals restored their two-goal lead before the end of the period, however, as Gillard converted on the power play, from Ryan Hawco and Alex Hillier.

Gillard added another power-play goal at 9:19 of the third, from Wiseman and Etechegary, to put his side up 5-2.

Etchegary completed his hat trick at 11:53, also a power-play goal, with Hunt and Iain Pilgrim setting up the goal.

Parsons brought the Mariners back to within three, at 13:26 of the final frame, but that was as close as they got. Greg Edgar and Cody Musseau recorded the helpers.

On Friday night, the Stephenville Jets edged the Mariners 7-5 at the Stephenville Dome.

Timmy Caines (2), Shane Columbe (2), Brad Lucus, Ryan Perrier and Michael Mahar did the damage for the Jets.

Drew Nadon (2), Edgar, Parsons and Steven Lomond found the back of the net in the loss.

Ryan Hancock made 31 saves to get the win in net, while Ryley Nadon stopped 45 shots in the loss.

League action resumes 8 p.m. Friday at Corner Brook Civic Centre when the Royals host the Jets.
