SPRINGDALE, NL — The Springdale Braves and Triton Combines will finally be back on the ice to resume the Green Bay Cup Friday.

The Combines lead the series between the neighbouring towns’ best-of-five rivalry hockey series 1-0. The Braves will host Game 2 Friday in Springdale at 8 p.m.

For the Braves to win a third consecutive Green Bay Cup title, their first home game will be a near must-win.

The Combines opened the series with a 7-6 overtime win in Triton Jan. 5. The home team had a balanced offensive attack with six players netting goals. Springdale relied on its big guns for offence, with Trenton Johanson and Scott Doody combining for five goals.

The Braves have won the cup both times since the team’s rejuvenation three years ago.
