SPRINGDALE, NL — There is a bigger show in town when it comes to hockey in the Green Bay area this year, but the Green Bay Cup still holds a special place in the hearts of players and fans alike.

The Springdale Braves entered the mix of the Central Senior Intermediate Hockey League this season and are leading the league in regular season standings so far.
However, the renewed rivalry between the recreational Springdale Braves and Triton Combines for the coveted Green Bay Cup is not ready to take a backseat.

“It’s a lot more of a hometown kind of thing,” said Keith Noble of the Springdale Braves. “It has gone well for two years now and we don’t really want to let it go astray now that we have it up and running again.”

This year’s rivalry has a unique flavor. The Springdale Braves from the Central Senior Intermediate Hockey League is comprised of three members of the Triton Combines, while other players from the Combines remained with the Northeast Sabres.

Noble, who plays on both Braves teams, said there have been some good-hearted jabs shared between the Braves and their three Triton teammates — Jaden Elliott, Donovan Fudge and Ryan Burton — in the senior hockey locker room.

This year’s series — a three out of five series — will begin with Game 1 in Triton Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Green Bay South Arena. The remainder of the series will be scheduled on a go-forward basis around the Central Senior Intermediate Hockey League schedule.
