Justin Pender scored two goals and added an assist as the Clarenville Ford Caribous downed the visiting Puglisevich Southern Shore Breakers 5-3 Sunday for a split of their two weekend Newfoundland Senior Hockey League games at the Eastlink Events Centre.

The Breakers had won 3-1 in their first meeting on Saturday.

In Sunday’s game in Clarenville, Mason Reid, Kevin Reid and Dustin Russell also scored for the Caribous (9-2-1), who own the best record in league.

Jeremy Nicholas, Andrew Gale and Keenan Kennedy replied for the Breakers (4-9-0).

On Saturday, Nicholas, Scott McCarthy and Daniel Cadigan scored for Southern Shore to back a 26-save performance by goalie Mark Yetman.

Mason Reid had Clarenville’s only goal.

There was one other weekend game on the league schedule. In that one, played at Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay on Friday night, the St. John’s Caps (3-7-0) registered a 3-0 shutout win over the Northeast Eagles (2-10-0).
