The tournament that has been held for the past 19 years to celebrate the life of Dean Little who tragically died while attending a hockey tournament in St. John’s.

This year a player from the Clarenville Caribous was diagnosed with leukemia the week before the tournament and was unable to attend. All players taped their sticks with orange to honour him.

Orange ribbons were also purchased at a table in the stadium with all donations given to the Hunt family — $1,200 was raised to help the family with expenses in the coming days.

Participating in the tournament were teams from Marystown, Glovertown, Clarenville, Whitbourne, Lewisporte and host Bonavista

The Seahawks had a great round-robin with a 3-1 record with wins against Marystown, Glovertown and Whitbourne. Their only loss came against the Caribous.

The gold medal game between the Lewisporte Seahawks and the Caribous was a nail biter championship game. Parker Whiteway opened up the scoring with just 2:06 in the first period and then another goal two minutes later.

The Caribous answered back with just 37 seconds in the second period. The third period brought lots of action. With five minutes left in the game the Seahawks were down by two men with two penalties late in the third. The Caribous pulled their goalie with two minutes left and with six on three, the battle continued.

With just 19 seconds left Whiteway scored with a pass from Robert Reid, sealing the deal with a 3-1 final and the gold.
