Port aux Basques will be represented at an Atlantic minor hockey tournament this October.
Andrew Mercer just learned he has been chosen for the Newfoundland and Labrador Male Under 14 team heading to the tournament.
Andrew, who’s been a member of the Channel-Port aux Basques Minor Hockey Association for the past 10 years, earned a spot on the provincial team after attending the Under 14 Male high performance identification camp in Goulds in May.
After making the first cut, from a field of 100 players, Andrew attended a week-long summer camp/provincial tryout in Corner Brook the first week in August.
At that camp, the field of 68 players was whittled down to 20 for the team roster, and Andrew was elated to be chosen for the team.
He says he’ll give his best effort on the provincial team and hopes to make his local coaches, minor hockey association and town proud.
He also thanks his family, friends, coaches and local business community for their support.
The Atlantic Challenge Cup is set for Oct. 10-13 in Moncton, NB.
