Newfoundlander Shailynn Snow and her Canadian teammates will play for a gold medal early Sunday at the world U18 women’s hockey championship in Obihiro, Japan.
Canada advanced to the final (4:30 a.m. NT) against the United States with a 4-3 overtime win over Russia in a semifinal tilt.
The Sunday championship game will be a rematch of their preliminary-round meeting, with the Americans won 3-2.
Snow, a 17-year-old from Clarke’s Beach, attends Ridley College, where she is captain of the Ontario prep school’s women’s hockey team. She will attend St. Lawrence University in upstate New York this fall on a Division 1 NCAA athletic scholarship.
