Despite 90 km/h winds forecasted, the Demi-Marathon of Champions in Fermont, QC, was rerouted and went ahead as scheduled.
Just over 50 people participated in the event. Five ran the full 21.1-km course, with 24 signed up for the 10-km event, and another 19 signed up for the five-km race.
Amongst the runners in the 21.1-km event was Labrador City couple Josephine Gaulton-Rowe and Elliot Rowe.
The overall winner was Pascal Boudreault, with a time of 1:41:12. Gaulton-Rowe placed second (first-place female runner) with a time of 1:55:51. Tied for third were Rowe and Denis Grenier, who finished at 1:58:02.
The remaining competitor in the 21.1-km event, Cathy Simard, completed the run in 2:07:07.
The event raised approximately $3,000 for Cancer Fermont, a non-profit organization that helps people in Fermont who are fighting cancer.
