Provincial association presents its annual awards and inducts three into its Hall of Fame

Golf Newfoundland Labrador recently held its 2019 annual general meeting at Clovelly in St.John's and as is the case each year, the provincial association took the opportunity to honour the top golfers and key contributors from the past year and to induct the latest class into the Golf NL Hall of Fame.

The latest Hall of Fame inductees, Jill (Winsor) O'Neill, Marcheta Gallant and Kim Grandy-Baker.

O’Neill, who won four straight provincial junior championships, six amateur championships and represented Canada at four international tournaments, enters the Hall as a player.

Gallant, a former president of the provincial association and longtime manager of provincial women’s and Canada Games teams, received the Lifetime Achievement designation.

Grandy-Baker, a former employee of the Grande Meadows Golf Club in Frenchmen’s Cove who was inducted as a contributor, was recognized for her work at the Burin Peninsula club, especially her endeavours on behalf of charitable organizations.

Annual award winners included Chuck Conley of Bally Haly Country Club in St. John’s (male golfer of the year), Kathleen Jean of Harmon Seaside Links in Stephenville (female golfer of the year), Taylor Cormier of Blomidon Golf Club in Corner (junior female golfer of the year) and Ethan Efford of Bally Haly (junior male golfer of the year)..

Pat LaCour of Tamarack Golf Course in Labrador City was the choice as employee of the year, while Morley Nippard, also of Tamarack, being named volunteer of the year.

Blomidon Golf Club was the selection as golf club of the year, while Level III referee Kay Thompson was official of the year.
