The defending league champion Southern Shore Puglisevich Breakers defeated the St. John’s Caps 5-2 Friday at Twin Rinks in the opening game of the 2019-20 East Coast Senior Hockey League season.
It was one of two games on opening night. In the other, played at Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay, the homestanding The Bigs Northeast Eagles downed the Clarenville Caribous 3-2 in a shootout.
The Caribous are back on the ice tonight, this time at home at Clarenville’s Eastlink Events Centre (7:30 p.m.), where they host the Conception Bay Blues, playing their first game of the new season.
There is one game on Sunday. It’s at the Ken Williams Southern Shore Arena in Mobile (7 p.m.), where the Breakers will raise their 2018-19 championship banner before taking on the Eagles.
