Three Memorial Sea-Hawks runners had top-10 finishes in the women’s division at the Acadia Invitational, the Atlantic University Sport cross-country meet held in Wolfville, N.S., on Saturday.

Jade Roberts (4th), Nicole Hollohan (6th) and Katrina Lynn Picco led the Sea-Hawks to second place in the female team standings in what was the first competition of the season for the Memorial women; they had not taken part in a season-opening meet at St. Francis Xavier last month.

Only eight seconds separated the top three finishers in the division. Roberts covered the six-kilometre course in 23 minutes and 38 seconds, putting her just 10 seconds short of a podium placing.

The best finish by a Memorial runner on the day came from Levi Moulton, who was third in the men’s division.

Moulton completed the eight-kilometre men’s course in 26 minutes and 55 seconds, just four seconds slower than second-place Graydon Staples of St. Francis Xavier. Another St. FX runner, Jacob Benoit, was first in 26:42.

In fact, four of the top five male runners on Saturday were X-Men, including St. John’s native Evan Knight (27:27).

Moulton now has two top-10 finishes this season, having been seventh at St. FX.

Nick Snow had the next-best result among the Memorial men in Wolfville, ending up 13th out of 30 finishers.
