MUSEGRAVE HARBOUR, NL – A love of volleyball has again paid off for the Musgrave Harbour-based team Shore Thing.

The team won its third Senior Female C – Tier 1 championship in six years at the NLVA Molson Senior Provincials in Lewisporte recently.

The team won eight of its nine matches, defeating Round 13 Clothing to win the championship.

“It’s something we look forward to it every year,” said team member Jeannelle Bowne. “It was really competitive ball and we had a lot of fun.”

And it’s the love of the game that keeps the team in tip top competitive shape. Bowne said the team practices at least once a week, working on skills, playing other area teams and taking part in tournaments.

It’s the comradery that makes it happen and it’s a big part in why the team has worked so well together over the years.

“We didn’t really know each other before and now we really good friends,” she said. “We just have so much fun, we’re always having a laugh, there’s no tension on the court and that’s what makes a team.”

To have picked up a third championship is a tremendous feeling, said Bown.

“We had to play back-to-back-to-back games (to win the championship) and it looked so far away, it was so emotional,” she said about the win.

Team awards

Janine Chaulk – MVP for Division

Lacey Abbott – All-star in the Division

Patti Mouland – All-star in the Division
