Former National Hockey League defenceman Adam Pardy of Bonavista is back in he game after signing a free-agent contract with Frolunda of the Swedish Elite league.
Pardy, who turns 34 in March, closed out his NHL career last season, appearing in four games with the Nashville Predators. He spent most of the 2016-17 campaign with the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.
This is the first European venture for Pardy, who didn’t play prior to New Years this season.
Since he was drafted in the sixth round, 173rd overall by the Calgary Flames in 2004, Pardy played 11 years of North American pro hockey, eight of those in the NHL.
His career totals include 350 NHL games, five goals, 50 assists and 276 penalty minutes with the Flames, Dallas Stars, Buffalo Sabres, Winnipeg Jets, Edmonton Oilers and Nashville.
He played briefly for the St. John’s IceCaps back in 2013-14, appearing in three AHL games.
Max Friberg, who captained the IceCaps last season, plays for Frolunda, which sits in fourth place in the 14-team SEL.
Pardy is the third Newfoundlander on an elite-level, Division I European hockey roster, joining with fellow ex-NHLers and St. John’s natives Teddy Purcell (Avangard Omsk, KHL) and Luka Adam (Mannheim Eagles, German DEL).
