SYDNEY, N.S. — Cape Breton University’s bid process for the 2019 and 2020 U Sports national soccer championships remains ongoing.
The Sydney university host committee participated in a conference phone call with the U Sports selection committee last Thursday.
“The bid was very thorough and professional, which was portray to our committee by U Sports,” said John Ryan, director of athletics for Cape Breton University.
Last month, Cape Breton University submitted bids to host the 2019 U Sports Men’s National Soccer Championship and the 2020 U Sports Women’s National Championship.
If granted the right to host the tournaments, the events would take place in November 2019 and November 2020 at the Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex on the CBU campus.
When contacted by the Cape Breton Post earlier this month, Alan Hudes, spokesperson for U Sports, confirmed the bid process for the tournaments was under review and noted there was no firm timeline for an announcement on the host city.
The CBU committee was informed Thursday a final decision on the tournaments could take up to three weeks. There was no indication as to how many universities applied for the tournaments as well.
