Central Newfoundland athletes clean up at badminton provincials

When the provincial badminton tournament finisehd up over the weekend, there were a number of athletes from central Newfoundland who found themselves at the top of their respective podiums.

In the single female division, Glovertown Academy's Heidi Simpson brought home the gold medal. 

Simpson became a double gold winner in the female doubles division when she and teammate Mackenzie Janes defeated their counterparts from Canon Richards Memorial in Flower's Cove to take the championship.

On the male side, Max Hunt of Victoria Academy in Gaultois won the singles division championship. Ben Tizzad of Dorset Collegaite finished with the silver medal. Hunt won gold again as he and teammate Gabrille Hunt captured the gold in mixed doubles competition. The team of Jessica Vincent and Devin Roberts of Dorset Collegiate brought home a bronze medal.
In the male doubles event, Tizzard and Ty Winsor secured championship gold.

Northern Lights Academy from Rigolet in Labrador won the team event after they defeated Dorset Collegiate in the final. Meanwhile, Glovertown Academy finished third in team competition.
