Elwood Invitational basketball tournament gets underway with win for host team

A game-high 21-point performance from Ian Colbourne helped power the Elwood High Lakers past the Templeton Academy Tigers on Thursday in the opening game of the 42nd Elwood Invitational Boys Basketball Tournament in Deer Lake.

Jordan Spracklin chipped in 14 points for the victors of the Tier 1 contest.

James Combdon led the Tigers with 15 points, while Noah Park drained 11 and Kris Loder and Kurtis White put up 10 apiece.

In the other game of the day, a Tier 2 tilt, Gavin Curtis scored 25 for Xavier in a 71-60 triumph for Copper Ridge.

Stephen Nzdyamora threw down a dozen in the win, while Ryan Legge added 11.

Andrew Small was the top threat in the losing cause, racking up 25 points.

Action resumes 9 a.m. today at Xavier Junor High and 10 a.m. at Elwood High, before clewing up with semifinal and final play on Saturday.
