GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NL – Local Special Olympics athletes were treated to a Christmas dinner and dance at the Grand Falls-Windsor Golf Club, hosted by the Knights of Columbus (K of C).
Special Olympics is the only organization the K of C sponsors, Dave Barker told the Advertiser.
The club has been supporting the organization since 1969 and world-wide has donated more than $700 million to the organization.
“This will be a fundraiser for us for the Special Olympics,” said Barker. “Out of this we will raise about $1,800, but by the time (K of C) state and supreme (branches) get involved and match or give a percentage of what we made, this could be in the $3,000 to $5,000-range.”
The Golf Club was filled with excited athletes ready to enjoy a turkey dinner and throw on their dancing shoes for a scuff on the dance floor.
Santa Claus himself made an appearance at the Christmas party, posing for pictures with the athletes.
