For the first time in a long time, Cricket NL hosting interprovincial tourney

Besides host Newfoundland and Labrador, there are entries from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and defending champion Quebec.

It’s not just the first Cricket Canada-sanctioned tourney for this province, it’s also the first event involving other provinces to be held here since the 1890s, long before Newfouundland’s confederation with the rest of Canada.

All matches are being played at RCAF field, off Torbay Road, on a new Cricket NL’s purpose-built pitch,

Newfoundland and Labrador, which finished third in the 2016 Eastern Canadians, had two matches scheduled for today, against New Brunswick this morning and against Quebec 2 p.m.

The host team will also take on Nova Scotia 2 p.m. Saturday and P.E.I. at 8 a.m. on Sunday. The final will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Newfoundland's roster includes Abu Syed, Arifusalam Shaikh, Bharath Shetty, Dhrumit Bhatt, Gurman Khurana, Ihtehsham Khan, Mesam Timmar, Najaf Raza, Praveen Manhas, Rakesh Negi, Rahul Vashishtha, Sajawal Osto, Saravana Kumar and Umair Khan, with reserves Amit Sundly, Neelav Diwan, Saad Jahangir, Talha Riaz, Taqreem Ghous and Waqas Ali.
