Holy Heart teams ranked No. 1 for Elite Eight high school basketball tournament

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association has released it first set of rankings for the 2019 Hall of Fame Cup (Elite Eight) high school championship.

Teams from Holy Heart of Mary High School in St. John’s are top seeds in both the female and male divisions fort the next edition of the annual competition, which will be held Feb. 15-17 at the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre in St. John’s.

Results from tournaments and games held over the past two months and prior to Monday were included for these rankings, compiled by a selection committee consisting of chairman Roger Head, Judy Byrne, Bill Brophy, Doreen Pond, Randy Ball, Gerard Brien, Bill Hurley and Randy Ash.

The Holy Heart boys and St. Kevin’s Mavericks girls team won the 2018 Elite Eight crowns.
