GANDER, NL – Airials gymnasts performed successful routines and earned podium finishes in every category at the annual Dream Big competition held in Mount Pearl Feb. 9 to 11.
Campia Gymnastics hosted the event, which included hundreds of gymnasts from the top Newfoundland clubs.
The strong results provide a good start to the competition season for the Airials. This important provincial qualifier is part of the selection process for the Atlantic and Eastern Canadian Championships held in the spring.
Leading the team with first-place finishes on beam, floor and vault and first-place all-around in Argo 3 was Charlee Humphries. Teammate Alyssa Pritchett also claimed the bronze medal in the all-around. Grace Pardy, Olivia Reardon, and Sarah Vivian placed fourth, fifth and seventh all-around in Argo 3.
Rachel Hiscock was the top finisher on vault in Cadet 3.
In Tyro 3, Emma Goodyear was the top Airials finisher, tying for first on floor and placing third all-around. Addison Crocker tied her teammate for first on floor and placed fourth all-around. Kennedy Broomfield and Rayelle Woolridge placed fifth and sixth all-around. Ella Brinson came in seventh and eighth all-around.
The Pre-Cadet team of Jenna Harris, Sydney Legge and Charlotte Wheaton placed fourth fifth and sixth respectively.
In Tyro 2, Samantha Butt won gold in the all-round after taking the top spot on vault and beam. Selena Hart won the gold medal on floor and placed third all-around.
In Novice 6, Megan Piercey placed sixth all-around, Kylie John and Megan Jones placed seventh and eighth.
In Argo 4, Clare O’Brien was the all-around champion and also took first place on beam. Teammate Alexis Peddle placed fifth all-around.
In Tyro 4, Norah Rutherford won beam and placed second all-around. MacKenzie Peddle took the gold medal on vault and floor on the way to a bronze in the all-around.
In Argo 5, Lila Carroll placed third all-around.
Avery Burry in Level 7 Junior posted the highest score of the team with an impressive 37.101 out of 40.00. Burry won the gold on beam and took the bronze medal in the all-around.
In Senior Level 7, Chloe Reid was the top Airials gymnast, winning gold on beam and silver in the all-around. Teammates Ella Carroll and Sophie Rayner placed fourth and seventh all-around.
“This was an excellent showing for Airials. We saw a high level of gymnastics from all clubs and it looks like we will be definite contenders this year,” says Airials head coach Sharon Gareau.
