The conditions were ideal — lots and lots of good snow, great weather, trails that were groomed to perfection and of course the hospitality and facilities of the Menihek Nordic Ski Club.

“We got an early start to the season and conditions made for a perfect camp,” club president Gerry Rideout told The Aurora. “Getting on snow early is an advantage for skiers, especially those who are competing.”

Throughout the week participants worked on technique for both classic and skate style. Videos were made and then reviewed so participants could see their performance and work to improve their technique.

The skiers also learned about waxing technique.

Along for the camp was provincial coach Luke Dunphy, Eric Charon who assisted with waxing and Jamie Merrigan who coached the paranordic participant.

On Saturday and Sunday races were held in classic and skate technique. Full results can be seen at www.zone4.com

Even though it is only early December, the trails are open and groomed and the folks at Menihek say there are many months of good skiing ahead.
