Governors Cup Final set at Northside Downs in North Sydney

NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. — Eight pacers have advanced to the final of the Governors Cup Series at Northside Downs following two divisions of the series raced Saturday.

Southwind Ricardo and Blacky Black captured their respective races again this week to sweep their elimination races and tied for top spot in the points standings. Southwind Ricardo prevailed in 1:59.1 over Makes Me Stupid and Wildcat Jet for owners Harold and Joel Leblanc, Bernie Gillis and Willie Seymour and driver Harold Leblanc Jr. Pictonian Fancypas finished fourth and also advanced to the final. Blacky Black led all the way to win his division in 1:59 for his sixth straight victory for Barry Bates. Accelerator finished second again this week, with Perfect Major advancing by rallying for third. Brookdale Buster finished fourth and also qualified for the final.

Mark Pezzarello had three wins on the afternoon, while Ryan Campbell checked in with a driving double. Pezzarello recorded wins with Kiss Me Im Irish in 2:04, over OK Gladiator and The Captain Jack; Broadway Bill in 2:01.2 in the Richie and Jenny Ellswoth Memorial and Classic Smiley in 1:59.3. Campbell's wins came with Private Paradise in 2:00.2 in the Angus MacKenzie Memorial and In the Studio in 2:03.4 for owners Norm Fiander and Brent Bradbury.

Racing action returns to Northside Downs this coming Saturday with a special 12:30 p.m. post time.
