CLARENVILLE, N.L. — At the Log a Load for Kids Charity Hockey Tournament, hosted for the first time in Clarenville Feb. 1-2, home team Sexton Lumber of Bloomfield placed second in fundraising — contributing $18,500 to the total $64,000 to be donated to the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre.
In 15 years of the annual tournament organized by Corner Brook Pulp and Paper, they’ve raised a total of over $570,000.
Sexton Lumber has participated in the tournament for the past four years. Each year the team has improved upon its fundraising amount.
The owners of Sexton Lumber, Kevin and Susan Sexton, say they’re pleased to contribute to this fundraiser each year.
“On behalf of our company, employees, our friends and business associates who have contributed to this fantastic fundraiser, we are delighted to have once again participated in the Log A Load Hockey Tournament,” it was stated in a media release. “The Janeway is close to all our hearts, so our involvement is particularly rewarding. We are honoured to be associated with this great event.”
Log A Load For Kids Canada, an initiative of the Canadian Woodlands Forum, is a national giving campaign through which loggers and other forest industry people donate the value of a load of logs, or any amount, to local Children’s Miracle Network-affiliated hospital foundations and organize related fundraising events. One-hundred per cent of all contributions go to local CMN Canada hospital foundations – the proceeds from the NL Hockey Tournament go to the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre.
