ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Conception Bay Regional Renegades’ next game is Sunday at the Glacier against the Mount Pearl Blades.

But while the first-place Blades present an undeniable challenge for defending Mary Brown’s St. John’s Junior Hockey League champion CBR, the Renegades will likely be unfazed by the fact they are playing on the road.

The Renegades are one of two teams — the Blades happen to be the other — who haven’t lost in regulation in an away game this season. Mount Pearl is 5-0-0-as the visiting team, while CBR is 4-0-1, the only blot on the record being an overtime setback in a game against the Northeast Eagles in Torbay last month.

The Renegades’ latest victory came Tuesday night at the Paradise Double Ice Complex where they romped in a 12-0 shutout of the expansion and homestanding Warriors.

Player of the game Blake Fudge had two goals and three assists for the winners, while Tyler Wall had a hat trick and Drew Stonehouse posted two goals and two helpers. Nick Gosse had his league-leading 10th goal of the season and two assists for the Renegades, while Evan Bennett, Lucas Osmond, Tyler Nickson and Jacob Gill had CBR’s other tallies.

CBR sits in third place in the standings of the nine-team SJJHL, two points behind Mount Pearl and one in arrears of Northeast. However, the Renegades have three games in hand on the Eagles.

On Tuesday, Renegades’ netminder Nathan Dunne had to make just 10 saves for the shutout. It was much, much busier at the other end, when Paradise’s Colby Loveless made 62 saves on 74 shots. That translates into about five shots every four minutes.

The first-year Warriors, still looking for their first points, have allowed an average of 67 shots through their first eight games.
