CINDY'S SNAPSHOT: Ribbon clouds over Mineville, Nova Scotia

The subject line of the email to which this photo was attached was "ribbon clouds." That's a very good description of the interesting formation Phil and Nancy Campagna spotted from their window in Mineville N.S. It is a turbulent wave cloud called Asperitas. It's the first cloud formation added to the International Cloud Atlas since cirrus intortus in 1951. The name translates to mean "roughness."
